This applies both to normal operation that relies heavily on PPE and respiratory protection (RPE), and to abnormal events such as containment failure or spill clean-up. Choosing the right one starts with your containment band; if you are new to that, see <a href=\"\/ru\/oeb-oel-containment-levels\/\">OEB and OEL Explained<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Why an air shower is the wrong choice for potent compounds<\/h2>\n<p>For highly potent compounds an air shower must <strong>not<\/strong> be used. Unlike a liquid, moving air cannot remove all surface contaminants through surface tension, and it cannot fix residues in place. Dry surface residue can be re-entrained into the air during subsequent gowning removal, creating an airborne exposure risk. For potent compounds, a <strong>mist\/spray shower should be provided inside the exit airlock<\/strong>, so that neither the worker nor the adjacent nominally-clean area comes into contact with the compound.<\/p>\n<h2>Deluge \/ emergency shower<\/h2>\n<p>The deluge shower (also called an emergency shower) is the classic chemical-safety shower. Directional nozzles deliver a high volume of water over the user, rinsing contaminants away to a suitable floor drain. The aim is to remove or dilute contaminant to a safe level, so that protective clothing can be doffed with little further exposure. Operation and maintenance &mdash; including periodic drainage &mdash; should follow local regulatory guidance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Points to consider:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mature, widely adopted technology &mdash; high reliability.<\/li>\n<li>Robust design with low risk of nozzle blockage.<\/li>\n<li>Wetting the garments reduces the dust aerosol generated during doffing.<\/li>\n<li>Legionella risk if not maintained and disinfected per supplier and regulatory requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Directional nozzles require the user to move (raise arms, turn) so that all garment areas are rinsed.<\/li>\n<li>Produces large volumes of hazardous wastewater that may need dedicated treatment.<\/li>\n<li>Water impact can create a contaminated aerosol &mdash; ventilation is needed to extract it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Mist \/ spray shower<\/h2>\n<p>A mist\/spray shower diffuses a fine droplet aerosol that fills the whole cabin, wetting every surface including the wearer&#8217;s suit. Through partial dissolution and\/or surface tension it binds the loose contaminant powder to the suit; the contaminated outer garments can then be removed and discarded, or sealed in a bag for cleaning. Many designs are pass-through, with two doors and a safe waste-handling hatch. Crucially, unlike a deluge, the goal is <strong>not<\/strong> to rinse contaminant off, but to <strong>prevent re-aerosolization<\/strong> during doffing &mdash; and to reduce airborne spread of the potent compound to other areas. Residual aerosol and surface liquid in the cabin may contain the compound, so it is extracted and collected after each cycle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Points to consider:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Very low water use (about 20&ndash;1500 g per cycle) &mdash; can run without a direct supply by refilling the reservoir; usually no dedicated drain except for cabin cleaning.<\/li>\n<li>Non-directional mist gives more even coverage &mdash; fewer unwetted &#8220;blind spots&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Legionella risk if hygiene procedures are not followed.<\/li>\n<li>Does not decontaminate directly &mdash; it relies on a disciplined doffing procedure to prevent aerosol spread.<\/li>\n<li>Wastewater from manual or automatic cabin cleaning must be collected as hazardous waste.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fenggu supplies both types &mdash;
